There is no indication that Hayao Miyazaki (creator of Ponyo, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, etc.) is in any danger. A rumour is circulating the internet that he is dead. However this rumour is based on nothing, and Miyazaki-san is probably fine.
From what I understand, Miyazaki lives in Tokyo. Given that Tokyo was far from the epicentre, he should have been in little danger. Remember that a similar rumour circulated that Satoshi Tajiri (creator of Pokémon) was also dead, and he was not.
JPOPASIAN is compiling an ongoing list of celebrities and musicians who are confirmed safe. If your celebrity does not appear on the lists, that doesn’t mean they’re dead; they may simply not have updated their blog, Twitter account, Facebook page, etc. So don’t get all worried over nothing, and stop spreading rumours that haven’t been confirmed.
